Who am I listening to?

Garry Potter is loving the snow!!

Hey folks, hope all is well. We are in the midst of SNOWPOCALYPSE 2019 here in Seattle, which has been a big blessing to me. I had some time stuck in the house to finally get all my content organized and did some strategizing on what’s next for me and my family.

Let me back up and I’ll fill you in on what’s been going on. So first up, I left the industry I’ve been working in for more than half of my life. I am now in the distribution game. I sell wine and spirits to bars and restaurants in downtown Seattle. I’m really liking it, and I’m better at it than I would have thought! Never thought I’d find a 9-5(ish) job that I’d actually enjoy.

There are some other things on our plate this year that involve me looking forward and really taking a look at what’s next for my career. I’ll dig into that further in other posts, however one of the things that I am going to pursuing is Life Coaching. There were other things that came up in my reflections and I started to feel stuck on how to pick a path or choose which direction to go. This started to get me down and send me into a spiral of misdirection, depression, and TONS of self-doubt.

I’ve listening to a few different people over the past few years (Gary Vee & Tim Ferriss being the main ones) and recently I’ve been tuning in to Brendan Burchard. They all get me fired up in different ways, whether its to CRUSH IT, or to find a way to maximize enjoyment and minimize stress, or to get out there and get motivated about becoming who you are meant to be. So I did my normal thing of listening to these guys and seeing if something they said would shake me out of this rut or inspire me to get up and do something… ANYTHING really! and turns out of their approaches start to strike a chord with me.

Dana Jill has been listening to Brendon Burchard for a few years now. For a long time I thought he was to smiley and cheesy and I just never really dialed in to what he was saying. Fast forward a few years and Dana bought us both his High Performance Planner.

SPOILER ALERT FOR FUTURE POST
Question 9!

I opened it and it looks pretty cool, I thanked her and set it aside with the intention of starting it in January. Once February rolled around I finally cracked it open. He offered a course through One Commune on Health and Wellness. Brendon explored different aspects of Wellness and I really liked his approach so I bought the audiobook version of his newest book, High Performance Habits and devoured it in 3 days. I still approached the planner with hesitance, however I started it on February 6th. At the end of the day, I went to fill out the evening portion of the planner and was AMAZED that I had gotten so much accomplished in the day. Even though my answer on Question 6 I wrote down as “intentions” for the day I was still really shocked that I made it happen!

I’m not going to tell you guys that Brendon has some magical words or process that transform you into your better self; you still have to put in the work. The planner and the book are great tools to help you along the way. If you’re like me and aren’t quite sure what direction you should go both of these tools are great in assisting you along that path.

(side note: I love audiobooks, so that was a great option for me, the print version of the book has worksheets that would also be extremely helpful and I plan on using later so whichever one works for you).

This is a new beginning for me. I am blessed to have a wife that is very supportive of my journey. Although the first day I came home and was on fire about moving forward, I was running around the house getting stuff done and she said, “Woah, I’m not used to Super-Productive-Sam..” HAHA! I guess I’m not quite used to him either.

I would love to hear from you if you are feeling stuck, not sure what to do next, bored with life, frustrated with your circumstances, or just want to say hello! All of the links in this entry are some of the books I would recommend checking out. Let me know in the comment section, OR give me a shout in the contact me section. More to come! Stay tuned.

  1. Love it. Keep em coming! Hearing/reading about your journey and search for accomplishments, satisfaction, “something more”, or whatever you want to call it will definitely help me as I seek the same things.

Much love to you and DJ.
